Locksmith in MississaugaDeadbolts installed
the right way

A deadbolt is only as strong as the hole it was bored into and the plate it throws into. In Mississauga we install new deadbolts on doors that have never had one, replace worn units on doors that have, and set the strike so the bolt slides home without lifting or leaning on the door.

Older houses in Mississauga get a locksmith who respects them. We work around original trim, keep period hardware where it can be kept, and match finishes when something new is needed so the door still looks like it belongs to the house. Modern security can sit behind a hundred-year-old face; that is a matter of choosing parts carefully.

How a visit goes

For a business, a lock is really a question of who. Who holds a key, who left with one, who needs to get into the stockroom but not the office.

    Step 1 of 5

    Call and describe the door

Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

  2. Illustration: a white work van with its headlights on, driving a lit street at night

    Step 2 of 5

    On our way

We look at the existing lock, the door thickness and the holes already drilled. Sometimes a new cylinder is enough; sometimes the whole lockset has earned its retirement.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 38 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.A mix of eras means a mix of bores and backsets. Standard modern sizes on one door, older dimensions on the door across the street. Carrying adapter plates and cylinders in both ranges lets a locksmith fit upgrades cleanly to either.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census). In a building, a lockout happens in a hallway rather than a porch, and the neighbours notice. A locksmith confirms you belong to the suite, opens the door with the least fuss the lock allows, and leaves the door and cylinder intact for the night.

Let's clear a few things up

Should I rekey my locks after being locked out?

It depends entirely on where the key is. If it was inside the house the whole time, your locks are exactly as secure as they were yesterday and nothing needs changing. If the key was lost or stolen, rekeying is the sensible follow-up, because it retires that key for good while keeping your existing hardware. Lock manufacturers give a lost or stolen key as one of the main reasons to rekey, and doing it during the same visit saves a second call.

My key is a restricted or high-security type. Can it still be extracted and replaced?

Extraction is the same careful process; the keyway is usually narrower and the cuts more complex, so it takes longer. The replacement key is different: restricted blanks are cut only from the system's records, so have the authorization card that was supplied with the system to hand, or the locksmith who installed it is contacted. Until then the spare, if you have one, keeps the door working.

If the cylinder is replaced, can it be keyed to my existing key?

Often, yes. A replacement cylinder in the same keyway can be pinned to the cuts on the key already on your ring, so the front and back doors stay on one key and nothing else in the house changes. If the old keyway is no longer made or the key is badly worn, the new cylinder comes with fresh keys and the other doors can be rekeyed to match in the same visit.

My lock is the homeowner-rekeyable type but the working key is lost. Can it still be reset?

Yes. Those cylinders let an owner change the key with a small learn tool, but only while a working key is in hand. Without one, a design such as Kwikset SmartKey is removed and placed in its own reset fixture, returning it to a blank state; other cylinder types are rekeyed by their own method instead. A new key is then set and the lock goes back on. It is a few extra minutes rather than a replacement.
